Students interested in the healthcare field got an opportunity to find out more about their profession. South Central College hosted its first ever healthcare job fair with over dozen employers from around the region.
If there is one field that seems to buck the trend of the economy, it's the healthcare field. With advances in medical technologies, our aging population, and our unhealthy trend, the need for healthcare workers is great.
Linda Larson, a student who attends South Central College says that, "I've wanted to do this my whole life so I'm really happy to take the next step and get out in the career and get out in the field." Larson has worked in the healthcare field previously for about 15 years and now wants to further her career in a different area of the field. Job fairs like this one can provide her with the information she, as well as others, need.
Jody Bloemke, Healthcare Placement Coordinator at South Central College says these are important not only for the students, but for the employers as well. "Just that opportunity to meet with employers, find out what jobs are out there and what the expectations are, it's a great opportunity for both our employers and for our students" says Bloemke.
Employers were from all different corners of the healthcare field looking for various experience levels. Although some were not giving out applications, many employers were happy to talk to students. Matt Hood from Oak Terrace Assisted Living was happy to see the students, but cautioned, "It takes the right kind of person to do this job."
