As soon as the snow starts accumulating, get ready to move your car if you live in North Mankato.

The city will be declaring snow emergencies as needed this season.

It's cold enough for it, and when the snow does actually start to accumulate, driver's need to be aware of the flakes in North Mankato in more ways than one.

"In North Mankato we have decided we are going to declare snow emergencies if they're necessary to clean the streets curb-to-curb," said Mayor Mark Dehen of the City of North Mankato.

With more than 50 miles of streets to clear in North Mankato, city officials say if you do not get your car off the road during a snow emergency, you will be hit with a $15 fine.

During a snow emergency, Dehen says all city streets in North Mankato will need to be cleared of cars. Once the white stuff is cleared curb-to-curb during a snow emergency, city officials say residents will then be allowed to park their cars on the street again.

Officials say they will look to spread the word on snow emergencies through the city's website and social media.
