MANKATO , MINN. -

Sgt. Jackie Sticha with the MN State Patrol, says the blizzard may be over, but that doesn't mean the roads are safe. Sticha says, "The roads are packed, they're frozen, they're icy and everybody needs to be careful."

In fact, MNDOT says the day after the storm is often the most dangerous. MNDOT's Rebecca Arndt says, "And drivers aren't expecting it, especially on a blue sky like today."

Foreman Cole Albrecht says when he's out plowing the roads, he sees cars going too fast and too close. MNDOT says drivers should stay at least five car lengths away from plows, anything closer, is too close.

Albrecht says, "Some areas might become wet, but they might not dry, before the sun goes down it gets cold at night so there can be refreeze."

So areas that were fine the day before can become slippery. But whether it's snow, sleet, or sunshine, Sticha says, there's no excuse for slipping up.

Sticha says, "If you're in the ditch, it is not because of the weather, it is because you were moving too fast."
