If you haven't cleaned your sidewalk from the remnants of the weekend's snowstorm, you might want to get moving.
Under the Mankato city code, residential sidewalks must be completely cleared of snow or ice within 24 hours after it stops snowing.
Officials say keeping walkways clear is important this time of year for public safety purposes as well.
"We have children walking to school and many other residents that rely on our sidewalks throughout the community to access," said Tanya Ange, Mankato assistant city manager.
If you don't clear your sidewalk and someone complains to the city, an orange notice will be posted on your door. After that notice, you have 24 hours to shovel or the city will do it for you, and if they do, you will be hit with a minimum $75 fee.
