The Mankato East-Loyola girls hockey team has been cruising through the season, starting 10-0 coming into today's match up with Willmar.
The Cougars had to like their chances against the Cardinals, as Willmar had to play last night, beating Mankato West 6-3...so the Cards could have been a little sluggish with a noon start today.
That wasn't the case at all with Willmar leading by two going into the 2nd period, but Maddie McCarger gets it to a one goal game when she steals the puck and backhands it in to make it 2-1.
It would stay that way until the 3rd when the Cougars get a great play from Kylie Paulson to Amanda Broman, and Broman lights the lamp making it a 2-2 game.
That would be short lived as Willmar goes back in front when Shelby Schneider completes her hat trick after Katie Paulson stops the first attempt, but Schneider gets the 2nd just over Paulson's shoulder and under the crossbar and it was the game winner as Willmar adds two more and gives Mankato East-Loyola their first loss of the year 5-2.
