Stefan Svard watched his father land his personal helicopter in his backyard in Corcoran, Minnesota as he had many times before.
On Sunday, something went terribly wrong. The aircraft started to rotate with Svard's father inside trying to control it. The back end of the chopper hit a trailer in the backyard, and within seconds Svard says a fire started.
After grabbing an Svard helped his father out of his burning jacket.
The pilot's son believes a mechanical malfunction or possibly the cold weather caused his father's accident. He is thankful his dad walked away with just a scorched arm and singed facial hair.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
