Independence Party Eyes Morrow's Soon-to-be Vacant Seat

The Independence Party plans on being a factor in the upcoming special election in state house district 19A.

We told you last week that DFL'er Terry Morrow announced his resignation effective January 7th.

The DFL Party announced that it would immediately begin looking for candidates.

Former Republican State Representative Allen Quist also expressed an interest.

Now Independence Party chair Mark Meyer says a couple members from his party are expressing an interest.

'Not only is it a special election, but you'll have a chance to choose between three different parties,' says Meyer. 'And that gives voters the choice; we think democracy works better with more choices.'

Meyer believes the short time frame for a special election levels the playing field.

He also believes District 19A is a centrist district.

Governor Mark Dayton has yet to set a date for a special election.
