U.S Rep. Tim Walz, D--Minn. says he's willing to reach across the aisle to resolve the fiscal cliff negotiations.

If no action is taken, a series of tax increases and automatic spending cuts will take place starting next month.

In a conference press briefing over the phone Saturday afternoon, Walz said it's time for both parties to reach across the aisle and get a deal done.

"The American people deserve better," said Walz. "We've known now for 18 months that this deadline would approach. We've known it would have to be approached in a bipartisan manner.

The sticking point with the budget talks is taxes and who they should be raised on.

According to Walz, the current compromise on the negotiating table calls for raising taxes on anyone making more than $400,000 per year.
