Professional hockey will have a season this year. The labor impasse that lasted for 113 days ended in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

With the Vikings season now over, many Minnesotans can soon focus on another of their passions:  Hockey.  With the January 11th drop dead date approaching quickly the league owners and players association put in some long hours over the weekend in New York.

They were at it for 16 hours yesterday until around 4 a-m central time this morning when representatives came forth with the news NHL fans were waiting to hear.

The deal still needs to be ratified by the team owners and players, but if it remains as it stands, it will be a 10-year collective bargaining agreement would see the players' share of hockey related income drop from 57 percent to a 50-50 split, and the salary cap would be lowered.

The schedule still has to be finalized, but the league has plans for either 50 or 48 game schedules.

The Minnesota Wild were one of the biggest teams to suffer from this lockout after spending nearly 200 million dollars during the off season to sign Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.
