Police are not releasing specifics on the threats made other than that they were directed towards Sleepy Eye Public School, New Ulm public high school, and Riverbend Area Learning Center. School officials confirm the young man is a student at Sleepy Eye Public School. That student is accused of posting threatening statements on Facebook.
A person in California saw the post Friday and called police. Sleepy Eye Chief of police John Schueller says, "He was going on checking information from his cousin who reviewing with his cousin he sees these threats on there that was on his site and then he notified us."
Schueller says the suspect was arrested at home Saturday. They didn't find any weapons in his home... and they don't believe anyone else is involved. Sleepy Eye superintendent John Cselovszki says, "I was concerned for the 600 students that I serve and kind of saddened that Sleepy Eye has to be on a map for an incident like this."
Parents were notified Saturday about the threat. School did go on as planned Monday, but with added security. Police are not releasing the name of the suspect because he is a juvenile.
