The Mankato City Council welcomes two new additions to the chamber.

Chris Frederick and Jason Mattick were sworn-in just before tonight's work session, and after spending the afternoon at council orientation.

Frederick defeated three-term at-large councilman Mike Laven.

"A lot of people talk about getting elected. That's really the easy part. Now the hard work starts. Get back out there, knock on those doors, talk to people about what's happening in the city."

Meanwhile, Mattick beat Ward 4 councilman Charlie Hurd, who had been on the council since 2006.

"I think it's going to bring some energy and I think it's going to bring a new viewpoint. Just try to represent everybody in the city - think the council is a very good mix now of people of different backgrounds and ages."

Tamra Rovney was also sworn-in after her re-election in Ward 2.
