ST. PAUL, Minn. -

Governor Mark Dayton Tuesday set a date for a special election for February 12th in Minnesota House District 19A.  The seat is up for grabs after DFLer Terry Morrow resigned his seat to take a job in Chicago, IL.

So far, there's a total of 7 declared candidates.  Three from the DFL, three Republicans, and one member of the Independence Party.

DFL                          Republican                          Independence

Robin Courrier          Allen Quist                          Tim Gieseke

Karl Johnson             Jim Golgart

Clark Johnson           Joel Brinker

A special primary election, if necessary, will be held on Tuesday, January 29th.  However, most candidates that have spoken with News 12 have stated they would abide by the party endorsement process.

The candidate filing period for the Senate seat begins Wednesday, January 9th and ends Tuesday, January 15th at 5 p.m.

The 19A Republicans will be the first to hold their endorsing convention, which will take place on Thursday night.  The Independence Party's will take place this Saturday, January 12th.  There's still no word on when any DFL endorsing convention could take place.
