Council approves permit for new water tower in New Ulm

NEW ULM, Minn. -

The New Ulm City Council has given the green light to building a new water tower.

Councilors signed off on the request to obtain a conditional use permit, which is needed to build the structure. Officials say the move paves the way for the city's public utilities commission to begin accepting bids for the project.

Right now the plan calls for constructing a 250,000-gallon water tower at Nehls Park.

Officials say construction could begin as early as 2013 and be done that same year. The pricetag on the new tower rings in at about $1.5 million.
