FAIRMONT, Minn. -

One local community will have the opportunity to help control their animal population.

The city of Fairmont will host the Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) this Sunday at the Martin County Humane Society.  Cats, rabbits, and large dogs will be altered free of charge for those who qualify.  Spaying and neutering not only helps the pet population, it provides many benefits.

Karen Folkers, President of the Martin County Humane Society says that it, "...lowers the chances of a variety of cancers and various things like that and their statistics show the animals that are spayed and neutered also have a longer life span too."

Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) is a mobile clinic that travels the state providing free and low cost services to pet owners.  In the past two years, they have altered over 27,000 pets.

The humane society is always looking for homes for pets.  On site and in foster homes, there are close to 80 cats, 20 dogs, and 3 rabbits that are in need of permanent homes.
