Golden Apple Winner in Fairmont

FAIRMONT, Minn. -

It's a new year and once again time to award a special teacher, our Golden Apple winner with a golden heart.

Fairmont Elementary School is home to our newest Golden Apple winner, Dr. Rochelle Franzen.  Dr. Franzen's fifth grade class was exercising their bodies as well as their minds today in their literature class.  Their smiles were ear to ear.

Using the learning methods developed by Howard Gardner, she is able to teach the kids on many levels.  This teaching style aims to tie together the seven different ways in which we are intelligent.  The more you incorporate, the more you can maintain your learning.

"The more you integrate, the more our brain has a tendency to remember and that's what we want. We want kids to remember their learning and to be challenged and to be up for connecting to other new learning." says Dr. Franzen.

While Dr. Franzen was humbled by the award, she is so blessed to be working with so many great teachers.  Her colleagues speak highly of her attention to put kid's education first.  Principal of Fairmont Elementary School said, "What Dr. Franzen does is she creates a warm, caring community in her classroom.  She cares deeply for kids and kids care deeply for her."

When asked if she enjoys her job, Dr. Franzen replied, "I love what I do, I've always dreamt of being a teacher since I was a little little girl and feel like I have a dream job."

Congratulations, Dr. Franzen on winning the Golden Apple.  Your students and colleagues are so happy to have you.
