St. Peter mayor Tim Strand is the latest candidate to seek the vacant 19A seat in the state legislature.
 
Strand announced his intention to file this week for the seat being vacated by fellow St. Peter resident Terry Morrow.

He'll seek the DFL endorsement.

Strand has served as mayor of St. Peter for seven years, and served two years on the city council before that.

He says his work with budgets and city government gives him the experience to get to work right away in St. Paul.
 
Governor Dayton has set February 12th as the date for the special election.

Filing for candidates opened today and runs through next Tuesday, January 15th.
A special *primary* election would be held on Tuesday, January 29th,
