MANKATO, Minn. -
A professor, school, and grocery store are all beingrecognized today in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Pathfinder Awards are given to people or organizationsthat bring Dr. Kings dream into action.
The 2013 Pathfinder Award goes to Construction ManagementProfessor at MSU Scott Fee, for his work building relationship with SouthAfrican individuals and institutions to enhance the lives of African andMankato area citizens.
Fee says, "It is a privilege and really special part ofwork that I get to do here in Mankato to bring student from here to places thatare very different and to break folks from other parts of the world to studyand research and visit."
The Young Pathfinder Award goes to Loyola Catholic School, thefirst "Fair Trade School" in the state and third nationwide.
Loyola H.S Principal Shelley Schultz says, "The dream to be thevoice and the action for all of those laborers who strive to receive a fair andjust wage, their dream is to live the teachings of social justice."
The Business Pathfinder Award goes to Mankato Hy-vee stores fortheir proactive commitment to providing employment opportunities and makingaccommodations for emigrants and young people.
Store Director of the Hilltop Hy-vee Dan Olson says, "I thinkeverybody wants to go to a place where they feel welcome and they feel likethey can see other people like themselves and it's not only a good businessdecision, but it is the right thing to do."
All recipients will be honored at a celebration at 5:30 onJanuary 21 at Halling Recital Hall, Performance Arts Center, MSU.
