An inmate attempted to commit suicide on Saturday at the Blue Earth County Jail.

The incident happened at 1:15 P.M. on Saturday.

Officials say a 50-year-old inmate was awaiting extradition to California.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff's office tells News 12 the inmate went into a jail cell and grabbed a bedsheet. The man then exited the cell and fastened the bedsheet around his neck and a handrail. Officials say the man then climbed over that handrail and tried to hang himself.

Staff were right there and grabbed the man's arm and were able to cut the bedsheet.

No injuries were reported from the incident.

Authorities say the extradition process planned for today still occurred.
