Rasmussen Announces Tuition Cuts

Posted: Updated:
MANKATO, Minn. -

Tuition price hikes are nothing new for college students, but Rasmussen College is trying something different, tuition cuts.

In Minnesota, the for–profit college will cut tuition an average of 18 percent.

That means about $9,600 dollars less for a bachelor's degree, and $8,600 off an associate's degree.

Rasmussen will also continue locking in tuition rates for those who are continuously enrolled... as an incentive for students to finish their studies on time, and save money.

Rasmussen College Mankato Campus Director Kathy Sanger says, "What our job is to do is prepare them to the best of their ability, to make sure they are getting the careers that they want, that they are educated and have a really great experience. So we have always been about that, we want to continue to be about that, and we are just trying to make it easier by make it more affordable."

The college says it will make the cuts by streamlining internal processes—like scaling back on marketing, and adding more e–books and on–line lectures.

Students will see the tuition reductions next fall.

A recent MPR article said that state data has shown enrollment at for–profit colleges has dropped almost 20 percent since 2008.

The school, however, says it isn't dropping tuition to boost enrollment.
