Posted: Updated:

School officials and the Blue Earth County Sheriff's department reporting High School Junior Hannah Gamble was killed in an early morning car crash when her car slid off the road and fell around 100 feet into a river.

Authorities tell us Hannah Gamble was reported missing around 8:30 Wednesday morning when she didn't show up to school. Then the call came in a little after 2:00 Wednesday afternoon that reported this accident. Officials say a passerby had noticed skid marks leaving the roadway just about above the Le Sueur River and found the 2001 Honda Civic down the riverbank.

It happened near the intersection of County Roads 27 and 28 in Blue Earth County.

The State Patrol and the County Sheriff's Department were investigating the accident this afternoon. They tell us slippery roads were a factor.

Authorities say Gamble lost control of her vehicle, left the roadway and rolled 100 feet down a steep embankment before coming to rest at the edge of the river.

Blue Earth County Sheriff's Dept. Lt. Tony Adams says, "Anytime you get adverse weather conditions, even though we didn't have much snow it sticks to the road and causes very icy conditions. Any time you're on icy roads you do need to decrease your speed."

The investigation is still ongoing school official say they have alerted parents and students and there will be counselors on hand Thursday to help those during this tragic time.
