MN Unemployment Dips to 5.5%, Mankato MSA Also Strong

New Unemployment numbers released Thursday morning offer some encouraging news for Minnesotans.

The state added another 9,100 jobs in December, according to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

DEED says the state unemployment rate fell to 5.5%, down a bit from the 5.6%  in November.

In the Mankato-North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area, 600 jobs were added - that's a 1.1% year over year increase.

Trade, transportation and utilities led all sectors in December,

Construction was one of the only sectors to lose jobs.

The U.S. unemployment rate last month was 7.8%.
