MANKATO, Minn. -
Some welcome news for Blue Earth County.
The County budgeted for a $2.3 million deficit in 2012, but ended the year with a $3.8 million surplus.
Along with some conservative budgeting, Blue Earth County Administrator Bob Meyer says the surplus is the result of the state paying them back early on advance–funding for country road 12.
Plus, some larger capital items weren't completed in 2012 like planned, so they will be paid for in this years budget.
County Administrator Bob Meyer says, "Both in terms of performance we managed our budget well, but also some of those timing issues factored into how we ended the year."
The county also had some unexpected revenues, mostly from fees, and paid $500,000 less on health insurance than expected.
