Mankato Area -

Sunday's weather made travel a nightmare and roads were still slushy Monday.

Mankato and the surrounding areas got a little snow, a little sleet, and a little freezing rain.  All together it made a lot of ice and a big problem for the roadways.  Despite the fact that there wasn't much on the ground, what was there was difficult to move.

Tony Marble of Mankato Snow Removal was just one of the many clearing driveways of the slushy snow.  Marble says, "Yeah it's a mess.  It's a sloppy mess and with that ice underneath the snow it just makes for a real tough job to get that ice and slush off the sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots."

Crews from the city and companies were out today clearing the slush and ice.  Marble continues, "We've been running all morning making sure that businesses are safe and houses that they're not slipping on the ice."

Some roads were in better conditions than others, but there is a lot of salt on the roads now.  Residents were out this morning shoveling the snow.  It was light, but just enough to make things slippery.

Lloyd Schilling, was out shoveling for his neighbor who is in a wheelchair.  This was the third driveway he had to do, but was in good spirits.  "You get a good workout and get out in the morning.  I probably got too much clothes on right now" says Schilling.

Temperatures are helping, warming to above freezing and aiding in getting rid of the ice, but the forecast calls for some more freezing drizzle for Monday night and some snow showers the next few days.
