The Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women has issued their annual report today.
The report noted that 2012 had the fewest number of domestic homicides since 1991 at 18 people killed.
14 of those were women and were partners in the past or at the time, 3 were friends or family, and one man killed by domestic violence.
Captain Rich Murry of Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office says, "We try not to get complacent even though we've done it many many times, each situation is new and can go bad in a heartbeat." Captain Murry says domestic violence calls are one of the most dangerous situations for law enforcement.
In Nicollet county, Michelle Zehnderfischer, Nicollet County Attorney says, "We do our very best to hold them accountable and prosecute them to the fullest ability that we are able to, based upon the facts that we have. We take domestic abuse very seriously."
Some good news to the report, no children were killed in domestic violence situations in 2012. But many times they see the violence occur.
