ST. PETER, MINN. -

Hundreds of people are warming up after participating in the Polar Bear Plunge in Saint Peter. Hosted by Minnesota law enforcement, the polar plunge raises money for the Special Olympics. In order to jump into the ice water, each participant was required to raise 75 dollars through pledges and donations. With more than 600 participants this year, organizer Dave Lange says they had a record–breaking turnout. Lange says, "Well I think people wanted to support the Special Olympics and then its kind of something fun to do for the winter festivities as well."

There are 16 different polar plunges each year across the state. Last year, law enforcement raised more than three million dollars for Minnesota's Special Olympics.
