Football fan Kelly Thomson says the big groups of people have her watching the super bowl at a bar. But even with the exciting atmosphere, filling seats at bars and restaurants can be a tough ticket to sell. With the super bowl wrapping up late Sunday night bar owners say it can be tough getting customers off their couches at home and into their bars.
Boulder Tap House Assistant General Manager Steve Demn says, "It's the largest house party event of the year. So it's very hard to put people in a restaurant on the super bowl."
Which is why many restaurants and bars host contests and giveaways during the big game. In addition to some impressive door prizes, customers could play bingo at buffalo wild wings. Demn says, "We thought this was kind of a unique event to get people to come down here and stay and create a great super bowl atmosphere."
The Boulder House Tap hosted a raffle for the best seats in the bar. Demn says, "and after the game you get to take home the two home theater seats."
Thomson says, "I about had a heart attack."
Sitting in front row, Thomson says she's rooting for the Ravens. Thomson says, "They're the underdogs." But she says no matter what the final score ends up being, she already feels like a winner. Thomson says, "It's comfy the whole thing. It's great."
