LAKE WASHINGTON, Minn. -
The warm weather may have kept the Big Bobber ice fishing tournament off the ice last year, but this year definitely made up for it. This year they had record–breaking attendance drilling more than 1,300 ice fishing holes. While the amount of participants was impressive, the number of fish was a bit of a let down. Only 62 fish were caught out on Lake Washington. Tournament director Al Dorn says the incredible weather building up to Saturday brought in people from all over the state. Dorn says, "And actually having that cold weather those days before where people really wanted to get out on a Saturday may have helped us."
Organizers are still crunching the numbers, but they estimate more than 1,500 people attended the event. All the money raised goes toward scholarships for MSU athletes. Organizers say they raised well over their goal of $30,000.
