ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Gov. Mark Dayton is getting ready to deliver his third State of the State address before a joint session of Minnesota's Legislature.
Dayton gives his speech Wednesday night in the Capitol's House chamber. Aides say the Democratic governor will largely focus on his recent state budget proposal, which includes ambitious changes to Minnesota's tax system that are facing widespread criticism from state business owners and executives.
Dayton wants to use additional revenue from an upper-income tax hike and an expansion of state sales taxes to help erase a $1.1 billion budget deficit while also pumping new money into public schools, colleges, to expand medical assistance and to give out $500 property tax rebate checks.
