ST. PETER, MINN. -

While many Americans will watch President Obama's State of the Union Address next week from the comfort of their homes, one local educator will be there in person.

Thanks to an invite from Representative Tim Walz, St. Peter School District Superintendent Jeffrey Olson will head to Washington D.C. for the big speech.

Traditionally, each member of Congress gets one guest ticket to the annual address.

About two weeks ago, Walz called Olson to extend the invitation.

Olson said, "I was thinking bucket list, we all have our bucket lists and this one on of those bucket list opportunities for me because I spent 16 years of my career teach senior government, so I'm really invested in the political process."

Olson will also get a chance to talk with lawmakers about his perspective on issues affecting schools.

Olson has been with Saint Peter Public Schools since 1975; he was named 2013 Minnesota Superintendent of the Year and is a candidate for National Superintendent of the Year.
