St. Paul, MN -
School districts across Minnesota could soon be seeing more cash in their coffers if one state legislator has his way. Representative Dave Bly of Northfield has introduced a measure that would restore funding for extended-time programs. The Democrat says those are programs designed to academically assist students outside of the school day. Bly says funding to those programs was reduced during the last decade, but this legislation would restore it. Bly says, "Mankato does have some programs that would benefit from this funding, whether it's an alternative program or targeted services those programs would benefit from make sure this revenue is increased and is able to continue." If this bill is signed into law, the new provisions would take effect during the 20-14 fiscal year.
