The section 2-A 2nd seeded Mankato East Loyola Girls hockey team had a fairly easy time in the opening round, picking up an 8-1 win over LeSueur-Henderson Saint Peter.
Tonight was a different story with 3rd seeded Willmar visiting All Seasons Arena.
A place where the Cardinals were already 2-0 this season including a 5-2 victory over the Cougars.
East-Loyola fell behind in the first period, but come back and tie it when Savannah Quandt, broken wrist and all, backhanded a second rebound into the net. 2nd period would see the Cardinals take the lead again, but the Cougars answer once more with a slap shot from Rebekah Kolstad. Kolstad would give East-Loyola the lead in the 3rd period, only to see Willmar tie the game and send it to overtime. It would take until the 2nd overtime when Maddie McCarger lit the lamp on a shorthanded goal to give the Cougars the 4-3 win. They will meet Mound Westonka in the section championship after the White Hawks blanked Mankato West 8-0.
