U.S. Department of Education says students with disabilities deserve a fair shot at participating in team sports. This announcement is in response to a report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office that found many disabled students did not have an equal opportunity to play. The department says if there is no room to play on traditional teams schools should create additional opportunities for disabled students.

St. Peter's activities director Steve Alger says his school already has disabled students in team sports. Alger says, "I think they come away having a great experience being there with their peers."

Because the school is fairly small he says there is usually plenty of room for extra players on the teams. But if they were to put together a disabled team sport they would likely have to create a co-op with other area schools.
