North Mankato, MN -

Today, of course, is Ash Wednesday. The day Western Christians begin the season of Lent. People of all ages gathered for Mass this morning at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans and Methodists may have different styles of worship, but all wear the ashes on their foreheads for the same reason. Father Peter Nosbush, said, "Repent and believe in The Gospel... Repent and believe in The Gospel... Repent and believe in The Gospel." Ash Wednesday is a 'moveable feast' that occurs 40 days before Easter. It can fall as early as February 4th and as late as March 10th. The ashes are an expression of sorrow for a person's own sins and faults. Traditionally, worshippers will leave the ashes on their forehead until it wears off.
