President Obama Takes Message On The Road

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON D.C. -

President Obama will spend three days outside of Washington pushing the proposals he unveiled during last night's State of the Union speech.

President Obama traveled to North Carolina this morning to visit an auto parts factory. He's focusing on creating more manufacturing jobs after proposing a one billion dollar boost to manufacturing research in his State of the Union address.

The President also wants Congress to raise the minimum wage from 7.25 an hour to 9 dollars. And he's asking for 40 billion dollars to fix some of the nation's roads and bridges.

But Republicans here on Capitol Hill are already rejecting many of the President's proposals. The G-O-P says his plan would mean more government spending and tax increases.

The President's is spending three days on the road to rally support for his agenda. He'll also visit Atlanta and Chicago but conservatives are criticizing the trip, saying he should stay in Washington to get work done. In the coming months Washington will take on several controversial measures including gun control, immigration and taxes.
