MANKATO , MINN. -
MSU students were at one local elementary school today to teach kids about bullying and how to stop it.
The 'Own Your Role' campaign was designed by MSU students in a nationwide public relations competition. It aims to teach the children four roles of bullying: the bully, the bullied, the bystander, and the cycle breaker.
It taught the kids what to do in various bullying circumstances. The children even saw an interactive skit showing how they can play in part in stopping a bully.
Travis Olson, Principal at Franklin Elementary said, "We want to create an environment where kids feel safe, where they enjoy school, where they enjoy the interactions with one another and where they create memories that last for a lifetime."
Children took a pledge card, in which they will write down their own role to stop bullying. This pledge card can also be used as a free ticket to the MSU Men's home basketball game this Saturday.
The assembly was performed by seniors Shannon Turner and Leah Samuelson and juniors Blakeley Derrick, Elise Konerza, and Lindsay Peterson. They are all mass media majors at MSU.
