Today was the grand opening for the Center for Sport and Performance Psychology at MSU.
Cindra Kamphoff says, "I think within athletics at MSU I think there's just more awareness of the mental component and I think several athletes and teams are taking an advantage of what we're doing and really using their mind in a way that would help them best perform."
The Center for Sport and Performance Psychology, is focused on helping athletes, performers and people in the community who are interested in enhancing their performance. And providing MSU athletics teams with an edge on their competition.
Director of Athletics, Kevin Buisman says, "The fall sports, with football finishing third in the nation. Women's soccer top five, cross county top 20 finish that set the table for our winter sports and it's continued with several teams nationally ranked in the post season."
Adding the success the Mavericks have had, proves mental training works.
Buisman says, "It's a pretty unique approach. Sport Psychology is really becoming more main stream particularly in the D1 level but now D2 it's something unique and we're excited to be working with Dr. Kamphoff."
With already accomplishing so much, they say they're excited to see what the future has in store.
In April the Center for Sport and Performance Psychology will have a coach's workshop. Starting in May they are doing a wellness program through the YMCA. Starting this fall they'll be conducting life skills training at MSU and the local high schools.
