MANKATO , MINN. -
A convicted sex offender who's tried to move back to the Mankato area three times has been released from a state prison. However, Gregory Eugene Ward remains behind bars because he has nowhere to live.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections says Ward was released from the state prison at Lino Lakes on Saturday. However, because he's unable to find a place to live, he's staying at the Scott County jail until he can find a home. He remains under what corrections officials call Intense Supervised Release.
Corrections officials tell News 12 that offenders under Intensive Supervised Release cannot be leave prison without a permanent address. That means if Ward cannot find a home within the next few weeks, he will be sent back to prison.
Ward is a Level Three offender – that means state officials believe he is most likely to re-offend.
Ward has a history of sexual contact with female victims, age seven to adult.
