The chances of winning the lottery are extremely slim... but there's zero chance if you don't buy a ticket.

And a local couple is very happy they decided to take the chance.

Rodney Poulson and Janet Taylor–Poulson are feeling much richer after winning the Minnesota State lottery's 100 thousand dollar cash spectacular scratch game.

And they already know how they'll spend the money.

"We're going to pay off bills and invest some of it, and take a vacation in the future," says Janet.

The couple says they don't have a mortgage or car payments, so they're excited to get to spend some of the money on something a little more fun.

They won't take home the whole hundred thousand; over 32 percent goes to federal and state taxes.
