Mixed bag of news in the latest unemployment report for Minnesota. But once again, the Mankato-North Mankato MSA among the top in the state for job gains. The state unemployment rate ticked up slightly in January to 5.6-percent but state officials say the state has added more than 12,000 new jobs compared to a year earlier. The Department of Employment and Economic Development released the latest numbers this morning. The unemployment rate was two tenths of a percent higher than in December, The national unemployment rate is 7.9 percent. The Mankato MSA had year over year job gains of 1.9-percent, second only to Minneapolis-St. Paul. The biggest gains in jobs came in the trade, transportation and utilities sector.
