MANKATO , MINN. -

The city of Mankato announces a snow emergency. The snow emergency will start at nine o'clock tonight and go through tomorrow morning at nine. Mankato Public Works Director Mark Knoff says it's extremely important the plows can push the snow off the roads instead of letting it melt throughout the day. Knoff says, "We're in the time of year when we tend to get warmer temperatures and if we don't get that snow removed and it starts to melt and it freezes back down it can create hazards within the streets."

No parking along streets is allowed in Mankato during the emergency. Free parking will be available in the parking ramps. People can also park their cars in their yards instead of parking on the street.
