Minnesota is emerging as a leader in telecommuting, partly thanks to a large number of people working from home right here in Mankato.
Minnesota is the only state with two big job centers, Mankato and St. Cloud, among the top 10 metro areas nationally in the share of people working from home.
According to U.S. Census Bureau commuting surveys, in 2005 an estimated 2,000 people in Mankato or North Mankato worked at least 1 day from home during a typical workweek. That number grew to just over 4,000 in 2010. That's estimated to be close to 8% of workers over the age of 16
