There was a third team in the 2–A rankings from the end of the regular season, and that was Fairmont.
The Cardinals boys' team was #5 in the final poll, but that still gave them the top seed in south subsection 3–double–A.
Tonight Fairmont was in Windom for the semifinals, taking on 4th seeded Jackson County Central.
