MANKATO, Minn -
Snow plow crews have been working to clear the streets thanks to last night's snow.
But it costs money to clear the streets. Mankato's city budget runs off the calendar year, so it splits up the winter between two different years.
Mark Knoff, Director of Public Works for Mankato said, "November/December time frame tends to have less impact on our budgets than the January through April time period."
Most of our snow has fallen in many short snow events, with few major storms. Our snowfall at 33.5 inches is below average for winter. This bodes well for the snow budget, which the city has used about 33 %. This compares to an average season where close to 70% of the budget has been used by now.
