NEW ULM, Minn. -

Construction is complete... and the doors are open at the new Menards Store in New Ulm. General Manager Skot Danielson says, "So many people have been so excited about when are you opening."

Danielson says for months many customers have been asking about the new Menards. Danielson says, "It seems like everyone is going in the staycation mode. So they're working on their houses."

New Ulm residents now have a new place to shop and work. Director of New Ulm's Retail Development Corporation Barbara Marti says Menards has already hired around 150 people locally. However, she says some small town stores expressed concern over losing customers to their new competitor. But Danielson says Menards is more likely to bring in new potential customers for all community businesses. Danielson says, "We're kind of a destination store so that helps bring in additional customers or guests into New Ulm."

Owner of Design Home Center Bill Steinke admits he was a little worried when he first heard about Menards moving in just a few blocks from his business. Steinke says, "The more we thought about it the more excited we got at the thought that the added traffic was going to be a really good thing for us."

But now he says, "The closer the better."
