MANKATO, Minn. -

More than 300 Mankato area businesspeople took a break from their busy schedules and flocked to MSU on Thursday.

Greater Mankato Growth (GMG) kicked-off its annual meeting on-campus.

Spokespeople say the event is designed to reflect on the accomplishments from the previous year as well as plan for the future.

GMG president and CEO, Jonathan Zierdt says the road ahead for Mankato is looking very promising.

"We have an environment here that's really ripe and ready for business to continue to do really really well, so we have a really bright future," Zierdt said.

Electing new board members was also on the agenda. Greater Mankato Growth also wanted to drive home its point of economic vibrancy.

"We continue to lead the state on so many fronts, GDP growth, job creation, etcetera, and we know that that continues to look really strong for us," said Zierdt.

Next week GMG will be at the state capitol to advocate for the region's importance with Minnesota's economic vitality.
