Emergency responders converge on 1107 Warren Street in Mankato after a pedestrian is hit by a pickup truck. The call came in after 4:00 today. Officials say a woman was taken to the hospital. The extent
Just after 4:00 p.m. a woman was hit by a pickup truck. Officials say her condition at the hospital is unknown at this time.

Mankato crews have already been pre-treating local roads in preparation for the incoming snow system. Officials also have a key message for drivers.

"We're really recommending no travel tomorrow," said Jim Braunshausen, City of Mankato streets superintendent.

As drivers hit the pavement on Sunday afternoon, Mankato street crews had also been taking action by preparing the roads for the weather.

"This afternoon we've had two trucks out just dumping that liquid brine on all the hills and some of our major arterials," said Braunshausen.

If you look closely, you can see the parallel lines of salt brine on the road. Braunshausen says the liquid can help make snow cleanup go more smoothly.

"It's liquid salt...once it's applied to the street we need a little time for that water to evaporate out, and leave the salt residue on the street," he said. "And that doesn't necessarily remove the snow, but it actually keeps the snow from adhering to the blacktop surface itself. So it makes it a lot easier for us to come along after the fact and scrape that snow back off."

The blizzard warning takes effect at 1:00 A.M. on Monday, and Mankato street crews say they'll be ready.

"I do have a crew coming in at 3:00 in the morning, we're going to have 9 trucks, the driver's have already been notified, so they can get to bed early tonight," said Braunshausen.
