ST. PAUL, Minn. -
More than a hundred Mankato business leaders and city officials make the rounds at the capitol today, lobbying for area projects.
It's looking like a good year for Mankato at the Capitol, so they're making sure to talk to everyone with a vote.
They even have the help of a new recruit who used to roam these halls as a lawmaker himself.
Greater Mankato Growth CEO Jonathan Zierdt says, "I think as a marketplace we're feeling better about the story we have to tell. And I think there's a lot more pride in our story and our message as a marketplace. We have some opportunities in this legislative session that we're feeling optimistic about."
For the city, it's the same old same old, the same things they've been asking about for years.
Mankato City Manager Pat Hentges says, "The legacy issues - Highway 14 - we'll continue to push for that funding that's deserved, and obliviously the civic center bonding. After three vetoes and seven years worth of attempting, it's time."
Ultimately, it's out of the little lobbyists' hands, and no deal is ever really done until it has the governor's signature. But it can't hurt making a good impression.
Mankato At-Large City Councilman Christopher Frederick says, "It's looking pretty favorable this year, and we're just reminding the legislators about that proposal and keep that on their radar."
