UK Prohibits fracking Only weeks before Federal election

The UK is to place a temporary block on fracking.

Fracking entails extracting gas from stones by dividing them up with chemicals and water in high pressure.

It is contentious and has been opposed by environmentalists.

Boris Johnson’s authorities had signaled its support for fracking because it needs to decrease imports of natural gas, which can be used to heat approximately 80 percent of Britain’s houses.

The coverage U-turn comes before a federal election is scheduled to be held on December 12th.

Whilst acknowledging the massive possibility of UK shale gas to deliver a bridge into some zero-carbon future, I have also been apparent that shale gas mining has to be performed safely. In the united kingdom, we’ve been headed by the best available scientific evidence, and carefully regulated by the Petroleum and Gas Authority, among the best labs in the world,” stated business and energy ministry Andrea Leadsom.

“After reviewing the OGA’s research into current seismic activity at Preston New Road, it’s apparent that we cannot rule out future unacceptable effects on the neighborhood.

“Because of this, I have concluded that we ought to set a moratorium on fracking in England with instant effect.”
