WHO chief hits back in Pompeo’s’co-opted by China’ Asserts

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has struck back at the US asserts the World Health Organization (WHO) was”co-opted by China”.

Dr. Tedros, WHO’s director-general, was speaking after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo created the claims in London.

He said such allegations are”untrue and improper” and cautioned against politicizing the coronavirus pandemic.

Pompeo, speaking to China in a media conference on Tuesday, said: “You can not go create claims for marine areas you don’t have any legal claim to. You can not endanger states and bully them at the Himalayas. You can not participate in cover-ups and co-opt global institutions such as the World Health Organization.”

WHO has been regularly criticized by the US government over its handling of China throughout the pandemic.

Washington officially launched a withdrawal process by WHO on July 8 after announcing the move in May.

Talking after Dr. Tedros, Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO’s COVID-19 technical guide, stated: “As an American, I’ve never been pleased to become a member of the organization. I see the job firsthand, what Dr. Tedros is doing and our groups do around the world”
