A one-year-old boy has been murdered and his mom wounded in a Chicago drive-by shooting which has stunned authorities used to uncontrolled gun violence in America’s third-largest city.
The 22-year-old mum was driving home on Saturday afternoon once the attacker pulled up alongside her vehicle and fired about eight shots, hitting the baby in the torso and grazing her head, authorities said.
“That is happening far too frequently,” Chicago police operations chief Fred Waller told reporters near where the shooting happened in the town’s south. “When is that going to cease? When are we gon na na say enough is enough?”
“We will grab the individual that murdered that three-year-old. We are going to grab whoever murdered this child,” Waller said.
Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot and police superintendent David Brown requested the city’s inhabitants to speak up when they had info about Saturday’s assault.
“We ALL have to be outraged by the violence we’re seeing in our town. This infant, and all of those inhabitants, deserve much better,” Brown explained.
